During my 35 years as a special educator I have had the privilege of working closely with students of every age with significant special needs or learning difficulties and their families.  For the last eight years I have run one of the most successful programmes for students with moderate to profound special needs in the province.  During this time, I have developed a clear understanding of the processes involved in transition to adulthood and I have been able to support families as they move through this challenging time.

I have dealt extensively and successfully with students with all forms of ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) from Asperger’s Syndrome to students who are profoundly autistic.  I am also well versed in the differing needs of students with a variety of disabling conditions ranging  from Down’s Syndrome,  Cornelia DeLange Syndrome, Lennox Gastaut Syndrome,  and Celebral Palsy, all the way  to Williams Syndrome.   I am able to complete functional analyses of challenging behaviours for all manner of students  as well as  develop effective  behavioural and educational  plans.   I believe in using positive supports first  through adjusting  the environment and then putting in place the necessary supports to improve communication and behaviour.

My experience makes me  an effective  advocate during family negotiations with Ministries, outside agencies and CLBC.    My  wealth of experience has helped  many families through the maze that is youth and adult services.
